I used to have a T-shirt that said, From 0 — Bitch in 0.5 Seconds. I was in my early 20s, and thought is was the dopest shirt ever. What I didn’t know was the seriousness of my anger problem, and had no clue there was such a tool as anger management.
I’m not sure what about להח Lamed Hey Chet made me “compare” this draw to my old t-shirt. But here we are, going down the memory lane; making connections, and evolving. So I’ll leave that personal bit of info with you, just because.
This week we are asked by the Ha-Shem (G-d, Goddess, your Higher-Self, the Big U, or what-have-you) to examine that little thing called ego. Funny enough, the littler it is, the more dangerous it might become become. This is why — a good, healthy, well developed ego knows how to be content. It gets the fact that there’s enough to go around. It knows how to be happy for others. It readily shares knowledge and resources, and isn’t shy to validate and uplift the community.
But, little, unconfident, and cunning egolings, don’t do shit, but trip in a sea of scarcity mentality. As a result they end up hunting down everyone around them who’s doing doing even just a bit better, or appear to be happier.
So don’t be an egoling!
This Week’s Name warns us of self-destructive tendencies, when it comes to us processing personal success. It wonders whether we’ve been stubbornly clinging to a high horse of righteousness; riding it with ruthless egotism, and becoming more invested in the ruin of others, than in the preservation of our own good fortune and personal achievement?
It is one thing to fight for justice. It’s another, to get high on hurting and opponent because it feels empowering to dominate another, for a minute or two.
Lamed Hey Chet is the antidote to envy and comparisons. This Intelligence knows all about how the ease with which comparison becomes procrastination, and then turns into self-destruction. However, the magic happens when we start letting go of what “they’re doing,” and begin focusing on what’s at hand. It is when the crosshairs lock on our personal development is when our Abundance Mind kicks into gear.
In other words, the medicine of this Name is in the understanding that by letting joy and positive intention go around, it will keep coming back, blessing you exponentially.
